Supercharged Face-to-Face Training

NMELRC continues to offer professional development opportunities for teachers of Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Turkish.

NMELRC holds SLA training that cuts across the four languages under the leadership of Prof. Mahmoud Al-Batal at University of Texas, Austin assisted by consultants like Prof. Ben Rifkin from The College of New Jersey. The workshops make use of resources, cutting-edge research and know-how that is available to the foreign language instruction field, as well as breakout sessions that are language specific. The workshops offer both opportunities to the participants; to work within their languages, as well as across LCTLs.

NMELRC uses a combination of these face-to-face meetings in addition to online modules. The Facilitators start with pre-workshop asynchronous discussion of general principles and analysis of clips of teaching models. This is followed by face-to-face time that includes hands-on application. NMELRC trainers also follow-up with sessions where teachers share video of themselves and continue to work with a mentor who oversees their growth as teachers and mentors of teachers at their own institutes. Thus creating a network of trained teachers who will then become future trainers.

Online Teacher Training Resources

NMELRC continues to work to provide innovative and effective ways to reach those who seek support but may not have the opportunity to participate in regular training through its collection of online video footage of master teachers modeling “Best Practices” from classes all over the United States and the Middle East.

Best Practice video library coming soon.
